Adrenal Disorders

The Adrenal Gland is one of the most vital glands in the human body. Its functions include the secretion of hormones like androgens, stress hormones (epinephrine), and corticosteroids. Their function is regulating blood pressure, and immune reactions, stimulating puberty, dealing with stressful situations, and facilitating metabolism.

Some of the disorders related to the adrenal gland are-

1) Adrenal gland suppression

2) Hyperaldosteronism

3) Addison’s Disease

4) Pheochromocytoma

5) Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia

Adrenal gland suppression :

There is a reduction of the Adrenal gland activity due to steroid medications.

Hyperaldosteronism :

It is the overproduction of aldosterone, which causes an imbalance in salt and potassium levels in the body

Addison’s Disease :

There is primary and secondary insufficiency, and the gland doesn’t function well. The reverse of this is Cushing’s Disease

Pheochromocytoma :

Here, the growth of abnormal masses (tumors) occurs that cause excess release of adrenaline.

Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia :

This is a group of genetic disorders with low cortisol and aldosterone levels.

Adrenal Disorders

These disorders have consequences like hypertension, diabetes, hyperpigmentation, sweating, weight loss, etc., and it becomes necessary to manage the levels of hormones to prevent other health disorders. The Endocrinologist aims to provide measures that either work on the Adrenal gland or the Pituitary since the latter regulates the working of other endocrine glands. These therapies manage the condition and strive to create hormonal stability.
