About Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis, that is, porous bones, is the condition where the bone becomes weak with loss of bone strength. The fragile bones of hips, spine, and wrists turn susceptible to fractures and break with minimal trauma or injury. There is excessive loss of the ability to form bone tissue. The degeneration causes bone weakness which also leads to changes in posture, hunching, stooping, gradual loss of height, and restriction mobility. Though many times a person may not realize their bones are osteoporotic but common symptoms of this bone disease that one could experience are mild or severe pain in the back, joints, bones, and tenderness. Diagnosis of Osteoporosis is done through examination and bone density tests using imaging techniques. Osteoporosis can be managed with therapies and treatments that vary from person to person. It may be making lifestyle changes, getting hormone therapy, using medications that will increase or at least manage the mineral content of the bone, and preventing the degradation of bones. The treatments will reduce bone pain, enhance the ability of the patient to have mobility, and aim to prevent other complications.
