Pituitary Disorders

The Pituitary Gland, also referred to as the master gland, is responsible for regulating other hormone-releasing glands by secreting hormones like growth, thyroid-stimulating hormone, oxytocin, etc. Two conditions cause Pituitary disorders- either the Pituitary gland is too active or is underactive; both these cases affect the functioning of other glands

Some of the most common pituitary disorders are

1) Tumors

2) Acromegaly and Gigantism

3) Cushing's Syndrome

4) Prolactin abnormality

Tumors :

These are unusual growths in the pituitary gland that are usually benign (non-cancerous).

Acromegaly and Gigantism :

This is the excess production of growth hormones which (often) are a result of pituitary tumors.

Cushing's Syndrome :

There is over-secretion of cortisol due to ATCH production in a large amount.

Prolactin abnormality :

Increase or decrease in prolactin levels that stimulate lactation.

Pituitary Disorders

Some other disorders occur when Luteinizing, ADH, FSH, and Vasopressin hormone levels are quite low or elevated; these fluctuations create medical complications and demand advanced treatments by the Endocrinologist, who assesses the condition of the person, symptoms, and medical history. The treatments aim to manage the hormonal balance and return those to normal levels.
